FAQ

Where is your office?

Northwest Houston OCD is near the Home Depot and behind the Chick-fil-A. Just head toward the back of the small houses, and you’ll find our suite. Here is the address:

10330 Lake Road
Suite Z
Houston, TX 77070

What are your hours?
I work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
How long are your sessions?
My sessions are typically 50 minutes – sometimes, a few minutes less or more, depending on the person’s needs.
Do you take insurance?

I currently take Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, BCBS, Oscar, and Oxford.

I work with a company called Headway for insurance billing. I will send you a link to set up a free profile.

How do I set up an appointment?
I set up my own appointments, so please feel free to text or call me directly: (713) 396-2742.
What is your cancellation policy?

Unless there is an emergency, I charge a $75 fee if the cancellation isn’t made with at least 24 hours’ notice.

With whom do you work?

I typically work best with those 13-60. I have less experience with those outside of those age ranges.

I prefer to work with individuals, but I’ll work with couples from time to time (it’s just not my specialty).

What do you actually do in sessions with clients?
The sessions have a conversational feel (common in most therapy sessions) and focus on whatever themes you’d like to discuss or any goals we’ve set.
Will I receive homework assignments between sessions?
Yes – especially for those with OCD where we are doing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. The homework is essential to your progress.
What modalities do you use?
I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also bring in Christian elements for those who want that.
What's your professional training and experience?
I received my bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 2003, my master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Houston in 2005, and my Master’s of Divinity from St. Thomas University in 2012.
What else do I need to know to make the most out of working with you?

Be honest, be patient, take notes, work hard, set goals, and bring up issues if you aren’t making progress.

Everyone has their desire for the therapist to know secrets and to be able to read their thoughts and solve all the problems. I have had this expectation of myself, but I know that it is not realistic. Going to therapy is sort of like going to the gym – the trainer guides you to learn what to do, and then you have to do it.

How many sessions will it take for me to make progress?
Expect 6-12 sessions before you’ll see some progress. It helps if these sessions are held no more than every 1-2 weeks. Anything less, and you will most likely not see much change.
What do you do for fun?
I like to do various things, from sitting on the couch watching movies and snacking on popcorn and soda to mountain biking with my stepson. I especially like mountain biking because it’s both great exercise, connecting with nature, and facing my fears and anxieties. If I don’t face my fears and anxieties, I figure that I’m not much of a good therapist.
What are some other interesting facts about you?

I like for my life to be a little bit different and quirky. I have two daughters and four stepchildren. In other words, I like chaos. It’s challenging and very difficult, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. And it helps me understand other people. My children range from three months to 14 years old, which means I have experience with all ages.

I like getting to know other cultures as well. I have traveled to 40 countries, speak two languages fluently, and love eating every type of weird food I can put in my mouth.

Tell me a little bit more about your personality.

I am an introvert. I have always been quirky and somewhat of a dork. I’ve always had few friendships, although I became more social later in life. I’ve always liked science-fiction, movies like Spiderman and Lord of the Rings. I love Marvel movies. I like a few sports, but I also enjoy cooking and being creative. I also have a YouTube channel with 21K subscribers. But that’s another story.
